Best Harmony model of the lot.

Date:3 October 2012
I've used several Harmony models over the years. Last one was the 800. I bought the Harmony One for a gift for a family member who was so pleased with it I got a second one for myself. It's far better than the earlier models. Sits snuggly in it's cradle each time. Ergonomically good to hold. Reliable to use.
Took ages to set up because of all my home theatre things, but well worth it once it was done.

Very Fragile and poor support

Date:15 September 2012
Not long after purchase my dog managed to knock the remote from a low coffee table to the floor. This fall caused the LCD to develop narrow lines across the screen making it unreadable.
Upon contacting support and after numerous phone calls and emails Logitech decided not to replace the remote. They determined it was accidental damage and therefore not covered. Noting there are other reviews on this site noting a issue after a small drop I believe the remote is not robust enough for everyday family use. If you have kids, pets or occasionally drop something Do Not buy this remote.
Also customer support where slow to respond, required follow up and would not allow me to speak to the warranty dept.
I note after a similiar issue in a review on this site a customer had ther remote replaced. I pointed this out to Support but still no replacement.
I will not buy Logitech again.

disappointed

Date:7 June 2012
i've used a 785 for years and loved it. it still works but it's been dropped so many times etc. I thought I was upgrading to a Harmony One. The software for switching from 785 to harmony one was awful. What I thought would take minutes would have taken hours. I didn't bother however as it became clear that the IR output of the Harmony One was dreadful. It has to be pointed almost directly at the device you want to use, so it's no good if you want to use it on several devices. Turning up the power didn't help. I gave up and I'm using my 785 still.

new review from 14/6/11

Date:2 March 2012
I reviewed the harmoney on 14/6/11 at that time i was not happy with it However having bought it i persisted and nearly a year later I have to say this is one of the most useful tools I have for my media centre. The onl thing is occassionaly it mis-carries out a command, but often it is me. I have definately recommended to friends.

Swollen Battery

Date:13 February 2012
This is my second remote. Didn't realize the first remote had a swollen battery until second one is now having the same problem. Pulled out the first remote and found the battery so swollen could not pull out. Atleast we figured out this one in time to actually get the battery out. Does anyone know how to get a replacement battery? This is and has been the only problem with Harmony Remote. Otherwise we love it. Battery is a huge problem.

One Gripe

Date:25 January 2012
All round the harmony one is a great product, but the one thing that lets it down is the touch screen durability. Mine took a light knock on a carpeted floor. The next thing half of the screen was gone, in the end it turns out you can't get it fixed so it can be an expensive investment.
Maybe look at some of the cheaper versions as i will, still the better remotes out there but this one is a bit fragile. Maybe something for Logitech to think about or is it the dollar talking.

No hassle

Date:19 January 2012
Very good remote to replace such irritating different stock remotes. Remote is very easy to use and configure. Don't need to have high tech skill. Although sometimes the touch screen is a bit too sensitive and pressed the wrong one.
Overall, I totally recommended this remote.

I can lower a commodore but have no idea about programming these gadgets.
The telephone support was the highlight, if it wasnt for them it would of been a disaster!!
As for the remote, quality.
My intention was to have Dad rid the use of 4 remotes however he found the touch screen confusing...so im using it until he gets comfortable with the touch screen.

Too Fragile

Date:1 December 2011
Although this remote has good features and is relatively easy to navigate and use, the screen is just too fragile for normal family use. Our first Harmony One was used in a carpeted room and lasted less than 6 months before the display screen went black. Made the mistake of getting the same again as a replacement - it lasted exactly 3 days before same problem with screen after my 4yo knocked remote from lounge onto carpeted floor.Half of the display screen has gone black.

I don't think I have ever given a tech gadget a perfect score but this Harmony One deserves it! I can't think of any way it could be improved, much as I might try. This is not my first Harmony remote.
I upgraded to the Harmony One after years of faithful service from a Harmony 880, and I can see that Logitech have been very busy in those years fixing all the flaws in the 880 which was still an exceptionally good remote overall. Ultimately, the primary buttons like the volume became hard to press so I finally bit the bullet and bought the Harmony One.
I couldn't be happier with it. It was up and running in seconds as I was able to tell the Harmony software of my new remote and it just transferred everything and it worked fine! Unbelievable! What's more, the control feels so natural in the hand. Beautifully shaped and weight balanced, with the primary controls being so much more intuitive.
You also have to love the touch screen which suits the purpose so well in concert with beautifully tactile physical buttons for the things that need them. I don't care what you budget is - I think this is simply the ultimate remote control! Highly recommended!

Good remote if you have a few days to programme it

Date:31 October 2011
The Harmony One Remote is a good product if you know how to programme it. The initial set up took the better part of the day and lots and lots of attempts to get it just right. Having spent that time, now things work pretty well spot on.
However, making changes to the set up is painful and takes hours instead of just half an hour. The software is confusing and has far too many sub-menus. There is no hope that someone who is not technically savvy could programme this remote. It also occasionally resets the clock when it goes down to charge. Thankfully this does not change the internal settings for the devices but it is still frustrating. I have no regrets in buying the Harmony One Remote but if you are considering buying one, make sure you have the time to programme it or know someone that can do it for you.

Good piece of kit, but...

Date:28 October 2011
I've had several Harmony remotes over the years, for the price you can't get a better remote control. My only gripe is they wear out - in particular the most frequently used buttons like volume buttons, I've had my 785 for around 2 years now and the volume buttons are really hard to press. Bit annoying having to replace a $300 remote every two years.
Setup can be complicated if your home theatre setup is complicated, generally it takes only a few minutes to get your devices added and the basics going, then lots of fine tuning that can be a bit fiddly, but definitely worth it!

I have had this unit for about 2 years now, never given any problems and I am extremely happy with it. I found it easy to set up and even easier to use. So simple even my wife has managed to learn to use it. I control several functions on multiple units, from simple listen to radio to (one unit) to watch DVD (4 units) all switched on with one touch...brilliant. I have recommended to several friends all who are more than happy with it.

Excellent

Date:14 October 2011
I've read some of these reviews with people complaining about the remote being complicated to set up, doesn't work, ruined HDMI connections (that's a doozy!), doesn't control Sony LED TVs, etc..
I have a complicated system and took my time to set up the remote and it is a god-send. Once set up, a lot of time is saved and the clutter is gone. If you have a complicated system and don't have the patience, are lacking a few brain cells, or don't have someone with brain cells who can help you, then don't buy this remote! On a a simple or moderate system, a novice can set up this remote. Even on complicated systems, a novice with time and patience can setup this remote. Will work on all devices, including Sony LED TVs which some have complained about. EXCELLENT product!

how harmony one changed my life

Date:19 August 2011
I've always seen universal remotes but never knew what the big fuss was until I became a product tester. After replacing 4 remotes in the living room and 2 remotes in my room I now understand why its so versatile. Its so easy to use even my 6 year old son is capable of using the functions of the remote and all it has to offer.

We were really happy with our Harmony One until a minor accident caused problems with the screen (see image). It's not cracked but the display screen has been damaged and is now only minimally visible. Touch function still works fine - if only I knew what it was I'm touching! Have not had any luck finding a way to have it repaired. A lot of money to spend on something that can be damaged so easily and is not repairable. Not recommended if you have small children or are clumsy!

Not as good as older model

Date:30 June 2011
This remote does work as a universal remote, and activity function is good, but the Fav Channel option on the touch screen in nowhere near as good as the 880. I can no longer set these main screen buttons once inside the activity to perform any function apart from Fav Channel. The older model was a lot better, please update your software to enable these touch screen icons to be programmed as ever we want.
