A real problem solver

Date:29 November 2011
The architect that designed our ultra minimalist home gave no ideas how we could control all of our devices that were installed behind solid wood doors. The Harmony 900 worked perfectly (after some patient reading and careful blaster placement). Having previously used a 1000i and One with patchy performance I was a little sceptical but the 900 was worth every cent. Seamless performance controlling a Samsung LED TV, Samsung Blu Ray player, Telstra T-Box, Onkyo Amp/Tuner, Onkyo Ipod dock, Sony PS3, Foxtel HD, and Apple TV.
I don't care what it costs as long as it works, thanks guys the 900 is the best in the range without a doubt.

Perfection in a remote

Date:18 August 2011
I have purchased many different models of Harmony Remotes for different locations around my house and recommended it to relatives, this latest model is by far the most superior.
Previously I had a Harmony 1100i which was sluggish and did not always function as it was programmed.
The 900 does away with any issues and the RF makes everything so easy to control, I have set it up to work with my Sony AMP,TV,DVD, Playstation, Foxtel, and my AppleTV all which now work seamlessly together.
Spending maybe 1/2 an hour on setting up this remote properly, results in never having to worry about anything again.

Very Nice Device

Date:15 September 2012
Although I spent quite allot of Frustrating Hours Programming the Harmony 900 I really like the way it feels and Handles. I also use a Phillips Pronto TSU9400 but do prefer the Harmony.
The only real negative thing I can say about the Remote is the fact that I don't seem to be able to add Discrete Codes. If I am wrong and it is possible to add these Codes then I don't think the Instructions are good enough because I couldn't find any. I think the Software needs a bit of Fine Tuning However as in some cases it does have a mind of its own.
I am using it to Control: Samsung Smart TV, Integra Amplifier, Panasonic Blu-Ray Recorder, Pioneer DVD Player and my Daikin Airconditioner. In another Room it also Controls a Sony Bravia TV and a Sony Mini Blu-Ray System.
I Do and will Recommend this controller to others.

You want 'one with everything'

Date:27 June 2011
What a relief.. no more, which remote? where is my? clutter.
The Harmony 900 has extreme benefit in my household. Yes, it took a while to set up correctly, as I had to program 4 different makes of appliances, but now.. WOW... Soooo easy.
push 1 button to start a multitude of gizmos all integrated to work seamlessly.
Now my brother and sisters have seen it, looks like I'll be set for my Christmas shopping this year!

Waste of money

Date:15 June 2011
The design of the software this control (the 900) is a bad joke
There are many things you just cannot do
They seem to have decided to "just make it work" and forgotten that to be really good you need to include things customers want to do.
It may be a controller that will control many things but it is slow to respond and VERY frustrating to use.
They claim to support many controls but when you come to actually do the setup then you have to train it - if its supported then it should not need training!!

Let down by RF

Date:15 June 2011
This is a unique product that is let down by a couple of areas. The primary reason for my purchase if the RF capabilities (i.e. to be able to change channels without opening the doors on my AV cabinet). This product is unique in the Logitech line in this respect, and it is hard to find a rival. However the RF performance is very bad and is a real let-down. The feature set is good, but could do with some improvement in flexibility (e.g. it took me forever to get it to turn off my projector correctly, and I still cannot program it to control my Apple TV). If you want a product that does the basics well and is easy to use, then I have no hesitation in recommending this to you. But if you want to use some of the more advanced features or need something that is flexible to fit your home setup completely, perhaps you should look elsewhere as this is a costly device.

Excellent example of an evolved product

Date:14 June 2011
I have owned half a dozen Harmony remotes since 2003 and this is by far the best one. Because of the proximity of my equipment rack the RF was required to operate the source components. My previous 1000 remote worked just as well, but didn't have the RF option in Australia. The 900 is actually easier to use as it only requires one hand to pick up and operate. I have owned this in my system for 18 months and it has worked perfectly except for occasionally not switching the plasma on (IR only) because I have been outside the usable range when using it. I have a reasonably complex system that the Harmony works a treat on (projector, media server, plasma, amps etc.)
My wife would not be without it. it is probably the best hifi component she has used!

delighted with Harmony 900 Universal remote

Date:14 June 2011
I was motivated to get a Universal Remote, when my count on stand-alone remotes reached 6. I read a lot of reviews and narrowed it down to the 900 or the 1100.
The salesperson talked me out of the larger (more expensive Harmony 1100). He favoured the sleeker 900. I am grateful for that advice.
The Harmony 900 is a fantastic product. Installing the software was straight forward. Setting up the device (using the software) took a little time (maybe 60 mins), but it wasn't difficult.
I have since re-programmed it after buying a Bluray player and a new TV.
The convenience of hitting one button to turn on TV + home theatre, or Home Theatre + CD is marvellous.
I have had a few problems with the RF receiver. My entertainment stand is 2m long, with CD+Bluray at one end, tv in the middle, and Home theatre at the other. Sometimes (often, actually) It will correctly control devices at one end, and miss the home theatre at the other end. I then have follow a few more prompts to get everything on.
But all up, I have no regrets at all (even with the rather expensive price tag). I don't know why I tolerated 5-6 seperate remotes for so long.
The salesperson sold me on the sleek design on the Harmony 900 and he was spot on. It is a sexy thing to hold. After 18 months, I still get a thrill from operating it all via the touch panel.

What an investment

Date:14 June 2011
The Harmony 900 at first glance, seemed as though it was a universal remote with a hefty price tag, but once used, boy was I wrong.
The remote features a huge (and I mean huge) database of supported devices which even included my astone ap300 media player.
Suprised, I proceeded to configure my remote and it was such a breeze. A few simple clicks of the mouse and I was done.
After an hour or so of using the remote, I found myself storing original remotes, and in reality all I needed was thr harmony 900. With a touch of a button all my devices that need to be in use from watching tv, using the amp and stb all at the same time was done by a simple touch of the remote.
Heaps of features, would recommend this to anyone looking at buying an all u need universal remote.
Well done on an amazing product.

Bought 900 to replace URC MX-650

Date:27 October 2010
After 6 yrs. my Universal MX-650 was having problems with the keys making electrical contact, from normal wear and skin oils. Since I couldn't find another MX-650 at a reasonable price, and the fact that if I changed any device in my a/v setup I had to have an a/v installer make the programming changes for $300+ (URC won't provide the programming software to end-users), I decided to look for another manufacturer that allowed end-users to program their remotes.
I looked at both the 1100 & 900 and decided to concentrate on the 900 because the number keypad and other keys were readily available. (I didn't want to go thru different screens on the 1100 just to get to a numerical keypad.) I read the 900 reviews intently, especially the negative ones, and decided to try it. I have not regretted it.
It's easily programmed thru the web-based software. I can customize *any* button for any device command.
The reason I downgraded the Overall & Feature ratings to 4 stars are:
- macros are not available for any of the keys.
- no 'Favorites' screen for non-TV devices, i.e. radio stations.
- can't program/customize the 900 offline. Not everyone has Internet access. Would have been very difficult to setup the 900 for my elderly mother's a/v equip.
- can't use the RF Wireless Extender or equivalent IR emitters
- the rechargeable battery lasts only a couple of days before having to re-charge it. But it could be me. I'm forever pushing buttons when watching TV.
These issues are relatively minor but if they were addressed this would be an awesome remote. I've only had it a few weeks so I don't know how long the hardware will last (buttons, screen, etc.) But so far I am very happy with the 900.

Ergonomics???

Date:18 October 2010
After returning the first unit to Best Buy, (it froze up after 2 days), I've finally had a chance to get it programmed and organized the way I like it. Mac users beware. The software may not work on older Macs (G4's). I had to use a new Imac with 10.6 to install and program the remote. That being said, I think the ergonomics are tolerable at best. Changing channels with the keypad is a two-handed operation because it's very hard to press the zero (or anything near the bottom) if you are holding the remote with one hand. When the 900 is not in the charging cradle and just lying flat and you want change a channel, the remote rocks back and forth. It's not flat on the bottom so you have to pick it up.
The battery lasts about 3 days before needing a recharge. And of course when it's dead, you're back to using your old remotes, so it's important to keep an eye on how charged the battery is.
The remote performs well. I have all of my equipment in a separate room. I haven't had any RF problems.
I think that Logitech has done of admirable job of trying to simplify the A/V world with the 900 but they missed the mark on ergonomics.

Works with even MORE than specified! Apple TV, etc

Date:11 October 2010
I have a very extensive home entertainment setup that includes 3D TVs, 3D BDVDs, Multiple Apple TVs, Multiple DVRs, and a house full of light controllers and multiple zones of speakers family room, living room, outside, and by the pool).
Before purchasing the new Apple TV I checked to make sure the Harmony 900 was compatible with the Apple TV Media Center PC.
Online it said that I could originally use the Apple TV with the RF and Blaster System. Then when I went to update my harmony remote it said that my Apple TV needed to controlled via IR.
To say the least I was very upset because I didnt want to have to go over the component closet and point the remote change the music every time.
I simply went into the "Options" soft key and selected "RF system Settings" on the touch screen then went to "Device Assignment" then there I was able to Assign my Apple TVs to the RF blaster system.
This remote can really learn how to control ANYTHING! You just need to be patient and really READ! make sure you READ!
My parents got this remote for their home theater system and the technicians took four hours to set it up because they didn't read the on screen instructions.
I set up mine in about an hour and my remote controls my whole house!
Key Terms to Know:
+ RF = Radio Frequency (Interacts with the Blaster system to control components put in a closet or in the other room)
+ Blaster = Those little black boxes that you need to place next to your components that are hidden.
+ Port A & Port B = on the back of the blaster it allows you to plug in extra mini blasters so you can place devices in several closets around the house or on several shelves and still control them. REMEMBER: you need to go into the options and specify if a device is being controlled by a mini blaster in Port A or B or Default (big one)
+ IR = Infrared, this is where you have to point your remote directly at the object you are trying to control.

Great product except for the rf

Date:9 October 2010
I work for a major retailer of these and have installed many of these for client of mine. I'm going to outline some key plodded and minuses of this product.
Ease of use- this remote and it's similar sibling the one are by far one of the easiest remotes to operate. My self and significant other(who is not tech savvy) love the activity based use(ie, tap watch tv). The general lay out of the buttons makes sense and we find most buttons are a good size and easy to find. I've programmer many remotes as well and find the harmonies by far the easiest. Some other similar remotes such as universals mx series though have their benifits are much harder to program and in many cases require professional assistance.
Performance- this is where the 900 falls short of the one. The advertised rf range of 100ft is not even in the ball park. In most cases I have found that 25-30ft is usually the max and even at that distance performance is iffy. I will only recommend this remote to clients if there components are within 20ft of the remote to ensure reliability an their satisfaction with my service. For most users of this product that distance is reasonable but for many projector users or placing components in a different room other options should be considered.
The other downfall of this product is with the rf base it self. There is only 2 emitters and the base unit acting as a third. This means if you have more than 3 components out of sight and all are not directly next to each other(ie, sepperated by shelves) you may not be able to control all your devices. This could have been resolved by using a non proprietary plug for the emitters so you could just purchase a 3rd party emitter. This also becomes an issue for someone with a projector over head and needs to extend the emitter cable to the projector location. The 1000/1100 remote with the optional rf base would be the better option for that user being you can use aftermarket emmiters. (harmony, in future products revert back to the 1100/880 style rf base that can be expanded)
Final summary- overall this remote is a great product if your hidden components are within 20ft and have less than 3 hidden components. Remote feels well built and sits nicely in your hand. For the price it looks more elegant than one would expect and the feature list is long. If your not a electronics guru or familiar with this product, stop by your local retailer to ensure this product will fulfill all your needs.

Poor Design

Date:1 October 2010
Two of the most commonly used features on a remote: the mute and the recall are such tiny buttons that you can barely find them.
There is no manual that tells you what each button is for. What are the four cool color bars for? NO idea. Check the web site. Still no idea.

Great remote

Date:16 September 2010
Easy to set up and works great. I have a media room with only the front projector in this room. All my other equipment is in the next room. This remote was easy to set up and has not had a problem working any of the equipment that is behind another wall. I love this remote and most important my wife has no problem using it.

Not Very Durable

Date:8 September 2010
I was liking this remote very much until after 1 month, when I dropped it from couch to the floor and the LCD screen cracked. Since then it has been very difficult to use since it relies so heavily on the LCD screen for it's operations. For such an expensive remote, I expect much better durability. I contacted logitech and they wouldn't cover it under warranty. I would recommend other customers to save money and purchase non-LCD remote models since remotes are something that we drop all the time and if it only takes one drop to break, then the remote will lose its utility very quickly...

Hardware good; software badly limits usability.

Date:27 August 2010
The desktop software for this remote leaves a lot to be desired:
1. If you try to make any changes that require more than about 3 minutes to setup, the software has logged out of your server, requiring the user to start over again. This is very frustrating when trying to set up "soft" buttons or other button mapping on the remote. The first axiom of software design: do not lose data/work! This is really galling.
2. The Wizards are really more in the way than they are helpful. They actually limit the usefulness of the remote.
I've given this thing all I can and I'll be looking for a replacement. Since I assume the software, the remote's downfall, is common across the Logitech remotes, I'll be looking for something else. The device itself is excellent. The software is so poor it should be redesigned from the ground up.

Good idea, poor product

Date:2 August 2010
Overall I am very disappointed by my purchase.
Pros:
-Single remote that does everything.
-Programmable.
Cons:
-Poor RF range (under 30 feet in my setup).
-Delay in RF commands and commands accumulating make it a real pain to use.
(Press volume "up" many times and it takes a while to react, then it continues to increase the volume even though you've stopped pressing "up".)
-Black shiny finish enhances fingerprint smudges worse than an iPad.
Overall I would not recommend this product. It's probably as an IR-only remote, but then you might as well buy a less expensive model.

Beats Monster AVR300 RF remote

Date:23 June 2010
I wanted a RF remote b/c my equipment is insde an entertainment center. I bought the Monster AVR300 and the Harmony 900, and here's my revew of them. The first thing I noticed was how easy the setup was with the Harmony remote. I was completely done, wihout much customization, within 15 minutes, and using the RF functionality. Everythng worked great. A couple of days later, the AVR300 was delivered. The setup for the AVR300 was much more difficult, and much less intuitive than setting up the 900. I tried both remotes over the next week, and noticed that the Harmony always responded whenI was within range. BTW, the range is no where near the 100 feet that they claim! The Monster didn't respond at least half of the time, however the range on the Monster beat the 900! The ergonomics of the 900 is also much better. The buttons are easy to fnd without having to look for them, and I really like not having any button under the number 0 to help find it. THe remote looks classy, touch screen reponds well, and I don't see much of a lag between when I press a button and the action is taken on my equipment. Nice remote and I would recommend it to a friend.

Excellent overall

Date:10 June 2010
I bought this to replace four remotes, and to keep my AV receiver cabinet door closed. Programming is pretty easy, and everything works exceptionally well. It did take a bit of coordination to make sure everything stays on or off the first time, but works great. I still have some questions, but having used LogiTech's Tech Support before, I know it will be done very quickly and very well. My only real complaint then is the battery, which drains within a few hours. Not good if you want to sit, watch a ball game, and channel surf.
